Which foreign country are you living in these days? The one with 26% unemployment and endemic corruption.

Am I the only one who loves Kirsty? What she sees in Max - what anyone sees in Max - is one of those great EE mysteries like the appeal of Phil and Ian - but I think she's great.

I could gaze at her hair for hours. So many things going on.
Kirsty and Shirley should form some sort of terrifying gang with Kat and Bianca. It would be like the old book group, but with scarier make-up.

How old is Ayesha meant to be? She looks at least 30 but acts an odd mixture of 15 and 35

Yeah, the actress who plays Ayesha is 30 but I assumed she was supposed to be playing a lot younger as well by the way she was introduced since Zainab was going to be her ward while she met the guy she was arranged to marry. Plus Zainab wanted to set her up with Tamwar who must only be around 20 or so. It is very confusing, she must be miscast or different writers have different ideas of what age she is supposed to be as well.
I'm still on the fence about Kirsty. I think I want to love her. But I'm always distracted in her scenes by her lips (which I swear keep getting bigger), the puffed up cheeks, the hair with the rattiest extensions I have ever seen and the trashymazing clothes. And once I get used to her from one day to the next she looks like a different person. Anyway, I gather she is with Max again now after once again a bald middle aged man irresistible to the opposite sex is able to take on a seemingly fit fella half his age in a display of machismo.
Nothing is really holding my interest at the moment but I am enjoying some random things like the Kat/Bianca friendship, Kim, Cora, Dot and Michael in general. Apart from Joey Branning being ridiculously fit, I really dislike him and Lauren together. And Alfie still makes me feel homicidal.

I quite like Ayesha, or Cheryl Cole Masood as she is now known in my head. I know she's on her way out, but I want her to come back and have the storyline I thought up for her the other day. Masood's and Zainab's breakdown in communications is happening at warp speed, like it's been Tivo'd and we're just winding through it until its obvious conclusion.
Also, Roxy's hair: is it ALIVE? And, is she sharing it with that big bag of weave who claims to be Max's wife?

I thought tonight's episode was excellent, and all the Masoods did a brilliant job - but it was sad to think how much Walford ruins people. Poor Zainab and Masood realising they were happy before they moved to the Square. I miss how fun they were when they arrived.

handofomega - you put spoiler in square brackets.
And yes, that news is not going to cause me many tears.

Is Kane the gang leader who looks like he has bells palsy? Either he has bells palsy or it's the worst attemptto look mean through scowling that I've ever seen on a tv show.

I love Patsy Palmer and think she did great with the material she was given, but everything to do with the actual "gang" of drama school brats was unintentionally hilarious in it's awfulness.

So, Kirsty is PREGNANT!! *Ugh* I'm so sick of Max's affairs, I swear it's all he does. He used to be interesting. Also, need to comment on my Ava love. Long may she reign!

Ava is wonderful. I like Kirsty too, but wish she'd kicked Max to the kerb about five minutes after arriving.

Why am I even still watching this? Max and Tanya - YAWN. Phil and Sharon - NOBODY CAN EVEN KEEP THEIR EYES OPEN.
Needs new ideas, and needs them fast.

I don't watch it any more, but I don't think I've ever heard as many people say how bad it is, and thinking about quitting, as has happened recently - and there have been some dark days for the soap before.

I still watch it. I think I always will, as much out of habit as anything else. I just don't mind about missing the odd Tuesday episode anymore.
There's not much to get excited about at the mo, which is a shame as there are some brilliant characters there - I want to see Kirsty, Shirley stop mooning about blokes and join Cora and Jean to form some sort of omnipotent quartet of brilliance. My favourite thing about Eastenders is its women - when they're not in some balding geezer's thrall, that is. Remember when Shirley got her boots? And the book group? I want more of this sort of thing. And the actors (such as Bianca and Carol) are better than all this (the episode when Billy died still gives me shivers).
And don't even get on to Denise and Ian, the least-interesting, least-convincing pairing in recent memory. Even the actors look like they couldn't give a shit.
One thing that has always pissed me off is the way they treated Kat and Alfie. When they were first in it, I desperately wanted them to get together, and then they finally did, and they ran off and I cried and all was lovely and now they've come back and everyone just wants to slit their wrists. I just want one popular couple to be happy and nice to each other the majority of the time. They didn't need to make the characters into what they became, and I think both of them are now hugely unlikeable which in turn has ballsed up one of their biggest assets.
Also, I love Michael Moon, but mostly because of This Life.

I agree with pretty much everything you said - I quite liked Denise and Ian's friendship but less keen on them as a romantic item - the unlikely friendship was quite interesting, but the romance less so. I quite like the idea of Mas/Carol even though it's surely only a matter of time before he leaves the show to be reunited with Zainab: the Masoods have been so decimated in number recently that their cards must be marked.

What most confuses me about Kirsty is that she appears to get (physically) dirtier and trampier looking as the episodes go on. Generally speaking, I like Kirsty and I think the image definitely adds to her all-round appeal but it still makes me wonder. Big shame that she's clearly on the verge of being moulded into the next italy-shaped-womb Ronniebot.
Eastenders is pretty bad at the moment. I'm pretty sure Sharon Rickman is to blame. I'm not sure if she is scheduled for her next exit yet but it would be quite welcome although considering Jo Joyner is off, I'm guessing they can't get rid of Sharon. Speaking of unlovable blondes, try as I might, I can't accept Roxy and Alfie and I will her off the screen as soon as I see her. I miss Kat behind the bar.
I really like Ava. Hopefully she'll get some good screen time with Sam's introduction. I don't feel like there's a leading female I can really root for at the moment. I'm mainly watching for Michael Moon.

I quite like Roxy when they bother giving her things that show a bit of character, but she and Alfie always worked much better as friends - I don't buy them as a couple at all. They really ruined the Kat/Alfie relationship. The guy who plays Sam always plays complete psychos so I fear for poor Ava.

EastEnders only won one British Soap Award. I'm not that shocked.
When I watched Thursday's episode nothing seemed to happen. Compare and contrast with the other soaps.

I was a little surprised Eastenders only won one soap award. They usually do better in the public vote ones no matter how bad it was over the past year. I at least expected David Witts to win Sexiest Male. But looking back over their nominations, they were very heavily Derek focused for such an unpopular character with viewers. Best Villain, Best Exit, Best Episode, Best Storyline all revolved around him for some unfathomable reason.
