Hahahaha!!
Darius will be appearing in Gone With The Wind.
I'm going with Will Young....(I'm so not, but he would be my Pop Idol of choice)
Anyway, it looks really long, and I don't know how they're going to make racism and the American Civil War into an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza, but I'm intrigued to say the least...

This sounds like a job for Corky St.Clair. Seriously, though. I realize that the concept of Darius starring in a musical version of Gone With The Wind is FUCKING HILARIOUS. But you will not get those three hours of your life back. Think long and hard before you do this.

It's free....
Believe me, I won't be doing anything else more interesting on a Thursday night....

...according to a review of the first night on another forum it ran for 4hrs 10 minutes and Trevor Nunn was sat in the stalls making frantic notes of changes to make to bring it down to a reasonable length.

Oooh, can you give a link to said review, Quincy? I'm dying to see what they've done with it.
I think it will be TERRIBLE, but am obviously not one to prejudge.

Millie seems not to have had a good evening And she's usually happy tap dancing in a lift, or nipping down to 'The Madcap Beauty Spot'! They probably need Carol Channing being shot from a cannon to perk it up a bit.

We went to see the Birmingham Players production of Treasure Island a couple of weeks ago. Somehow not great, mainly because Jim Hawkins wasn't believable and looked like Frodo from LOTR. The Squire seemed to be played by Eric Morcombe and Long John Silver by Micheal Caine.
Ah well, this weekend we are going to see The Reduced Shakespeare company do the complete works of Shakespeare. If its as good as The Bible in 90 minutes I shall be very pleased.

It doesn't seem that scathing. I'm still quite looking forward to it. I really am quite intrigued. I hope they keep some of the themes from the movie in it. I love the Theme for Tara.

Darius will be appearing in Gone With The Wind. He's on with Paul O'Grady tonight probably still doing his Uriah Heep act talking about the show. Maybe they'll have filmed a clip.

I quite want to go to that but would inevitably go by myself.

Geek out moment: I'm desperately hoping they'll bring the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee over to the UK sometime soon. I'm so annoyed it's closed on Broadway because it was pretty much full when I saw it at the end of last year and I was really looking forward to going again!
I'm already readying myself for my next New York trip - more Altar Boyz, Hairspray and I might even try and make it over for Equus next year.

I'm desperately hoping they'll bring the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee over to the UK sometime soon. I first heard of this from a pal in Melbourne who raved about it. Their production had Magda Szubanski as William Barfée, the boy with an allergic reaction to peanuts. I'd have loved to have seen her in that.

That looks really bloody awful but I would dearly love to see Mel Giedroyc trotting out her Lithuanian accent. Fingers crossed for a Liverpool date!

I saw Eurobeat in Edinburgh last year. It was quite funny and generally good. I didn't take it as parody though - the "Greek" entrant's song was amazing, because she starts off all meek Nana Mouskouri and ends up a thumping, strutting Elena Paparizou diva

It's totally fab - though I'm not sure what I'd have made of it with Magda in it! William Barfée is one of the best characters (along with Leaf Coneybear). I heartily recommend it if you're ever near a touring production. It's so sweet and funny and brilliant.

Les Denis was in 'Eurobeat' but is off on paternity leave. On the Scottish run of the show we have the lovely Craig Hill. Usually Elaine C Smith gets stuck in anything touring so I'm grateful she's busy rehearsing 'Little Voice'
I remember Craig at a Pride Scotia event. Instead of individual portaloos they supplied an 8 man porta-urinal. He was the only person to go in alone and lock the door for privacy! We had to queue up until he'd finished.

Right then - Gone With The Wind
The cast do their best (yes even Darius is quite good), despite basically doing impressions of everyone from the film.
But it's just an unworkable idea. It starts at 7.30pm and finishes at 11.30pm, but I'd completely lost interest at about 10.30pm. Being able to hear the thuddng bassline of the club outside didn't help.
The songs, bar one, are all completely forgettable and have no emotional power, and the whole cast duck in and out of narrating the story, which just doesn't work.
It all gets a bit unintentionally hilarious towards the end, and when they acted out Scarlett and Rhett's daughtr falling of her hourse and dying in slow motion (a la Baywatch), I started laughing as it was all too much.
Unless you get free tickets, I really wouldn't bother.
Oh yeah, and the set broke, so we had to wait ten minutes while they repaired it, leaving Scarlett standing there. It got fixed and nothing happened, so the actress just issued a very terse "I think we can GO now....."

OH MY GOD four HOURS? I like Darius, if I'm honest, but I don't like him THAT much.

Darius revealed on the Paul O'Grady Show that he was smoking cigars to get into the part. He'd also been chewing tobacco until the actress playing Scarlett told him his breath was stinking and could he stop please.

Mario Lopez and his fantastic arms have joined the Broadway production of A Chorus Line. There are pictures of him and his arms, along with other big armed hot men in vests rehearsing !!!here!!! (warning: the pictures contain at least one instance of camel toe)

I like Mario Lopez but A Chorus Line is by far the dullest musical I've EVER seen in my life.
