Yes, that is the OFFICIAL title of the 6th book. JK Rowling revealed it on her website the same day that hackers decided to tell people it was "the pillar of storge". It was initally the title for chamber of secrets, but she decided to keep those pivotal plot twists until book six. She has said that the prince is neither Harry or Voldemort, so thinking caps at the ready. There has also been no publishing date revealed as yet. I'm sooooo excited now.

I really can't think who it would be; my immediate reaction was that it had to be Tom Riddle (in some shape or form) but if it isn't Voldermort then I guess that counts him out. What strikes me as odd, though, is 'The Half Blood Prince' was the working title of Chamber of Secrets, where it obviously did refer to Tom. So, I don't know.
I'm going to take a wild guess now and say it probably refers to a new character. Either that, or there's going to be one hell of a plot twist. Of the half blood characters we've encountered so far, I'd guess it is most likely to be Lupin, possibly one of the Creevy brothers, or... Hagrid? But I'm struggling to remember all the male half blood characters anyway. Neville is pure blood, isn't he? He would be the best bet otherwise.
Still, I love the title. I think it sounds fabulously dark and Narnia-esque.

Hmmm, not sure about the title.
The rumours are that the half blood prince is Mark Evans, a kid mentioned very briefly at the beginning of book 5, who has been only been talked about because his surname is the same as Harry's mum's maiden name.
Book 5's title was revealed a year before it's released, so I don't think we have to wait any longer than a year for this one.
(After JK has announced she's finished it takes another 6 months before the book is in the shops)

Not that I'm dissing, but I'd be very surprised if this theory was true. In a narrative world populated by characters with names like Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, would JK name a major character Mark Evans? The title would essentially be Harry Potter and Mark Evans. Doesn't sound very fantastical, does it?

Exactly why instead it is the half blood prince!!!!!
It is only a theory. But lots of the mudbloods/half-bloods have boring names anyway - Dean Thomas, Harry Potter etc just because they've been brought up in a muggle environment.
If Mark Evans is something to do with Lily and book 6, he would be living with a muggle family in a muggle street (hence why and how he gets beaten up by Dudley). The name is meant not to stand out. If he was called Rambunctious Evans or something it would just be wrong.

Rambunctious Evans or something it would just be wrong. But Hermione's half-blood and she's got a character's name. Same with Harry -- it's a muggle name, but it had something vaguely lyrical about it. Mark Evans just sounds like a regular kid. Think about the way JK names her characters. Remus Lupin (Wolf, Moon), Sirius Black (Star, Evil) and even Tom Riddle (sorta muggle name, but with an carefully chosen surname). Even the muggles have fantastic names like Vernon and Petunia. She might've been Lily Evans but Mark Evans has no referencing in it at all. I'm not saying it won't happen (now Sirius is gone (dead?), Harry'll need more family), but it would feel jarring to her universe if JK did do it.

it would feel jarring to her universe if JK did do it. Yeah that's fair enough. I like speculating though, it is fun. Do you think the half-blood prince is a new character or a twist on one we already know?

I think it'll either be a new character entering the first year in hogwarts or an adult character. If it was anyone in the school so far something wouldve clicked already.

On JK's site, she says that Mark Evans is actually not a major part of the story or anything to do with Lily.

I've decided to take back my guess I made before and am now guessing its Dean Thomas. He is actually a half blood but he doesnt know that because he doesnt know anything about his father (who was a wizard). I am thinking he may find out about this in the next book.
JK said the next book has links to the 2nd book which is why I now think it is an existing character. Although I may be wrong about who it is because I read about Dean Thomas on JK's site. She probably isnt stupid enough to give it away like that.
Wish she'd bloody hurry up and get it written.

I thought it was Dean too, but on her site she said (I think) that she was only putting up Dean's background info up because she didn't think she'd be putting it in the books. I'd assume that if he were the Half Blood Prince that he'd get a bit of information on him before getting all half blood princey.
How long did the other books get released after the announcement of their titles?

The Half Blood Prince was a maybe title for Chamber of Secrets, and all that went on in CoS is important to this book.
Because of this, the Half Blood Prince is probably Tom Riddle.
Boring...

JK (Rowling not Jamiroquai) has said its neither Harry or Voldemort aka Tom Riddle.

she says it's not voldermort.
but in chamber of secrets, dobby tells harry that the danger at hogwarts has nothing to do with voldermort - and it didn't; it was tom riddle (before he became voldermort).
jk could be doing the same sneaky thing here.

Less than 2 months to go, and somebody has leaked who will die in this book...
...well probably.
I am still very very excited.

It's bloody annoying that they've leaked who dies. I hope this is all a stunt to steer us away from the truth rather than being right.
