I hate to say it, but I am actually shocked at the lack of Christmas adverts on the tele now that it is the 12th October.
Apart from Eurodisney, I think I also saw one advertising some electronic slimming machine, but that simply included the word Christmas - no sleigh bells or falling snowflakes in sight.
And that's it!

We were asked by one of our cake supplies if we wanted any mince pies for tomorrow's delivery. They said usually they don't start making them until mid November but customers have asked for them early this year.
I was looking at the Waitrose hampers last night. If I had £250 to spare I might get myself the wine and chocolate one.

Is it just wine and chocolate? Because you'd be sick before you made good use of £250 worth.
Having said that I wouldn't mind trying.

I work in a shopping centre and there's a shop just opened dedicated entirely to selling Christmas-themed slippers.

Having overselpt a tiny bit his morning, I had to call in to Starbucks for breakfast. My chocolate and caramel shortbread was handed to me in a Christmas Snowflake Edition Paper Bag. What kind of breakfast is that!?

There's a huge truck outside of my window putting lights and decorations on all the street lights right now. I know councils like to get in there early but surely mid October is too early for that?

Is anyone else slightly confused with Starbucks still having their Strawberries and Cream frappuccinno thingies still in? They normally get rid as soon as summers over. Debenhams has all their Christmas catalogues in nice Christmas bins now though.

Bolton now has their Christmas lights up. We await with bated breath the cavalcade of celebrity that officially switches them on. We reached a bit of a pinnacle three years ago with the Fast Food Rockers, but they'll probably sell out this year and go for Dave Fucking Spikey.
Has anyone else seen A-List talent turning on their provincial light display?

Manchester ususally gets some ace ones, although I haven't bothered to care since the giant santa fell off the side of the building and nearly crushed a few cars.

What kind of breakfast is that!? One of which I am slightly less ashamed than perhaps I should be. It's a bit of an improvement on The Continental: - espresso and silk cut. It's also rather better than my favourite breakfast when I first started working: a cheese and onion pasty, a packet of bacon flavour groovers, and a Picnic bar (do they still make those?). I also remember one fine morning when I was a student, waking up to find the only things to hand were the remains of a Thornton's Continental Casket (the one where the casket is made of nougat) and half a bottle of champagne. Bliss. Currently, my favourite breakfast, confined to weekends, is a Waitrose cinnamon whirl, and decent coffee. Yum. I realise I may have created an image of a fat, old drunk, but that wouldn't be entirely true...

We generally get Coronation Street 'stars'. I doubt there'll be any one remotely famous this year though as there was a big fuss over how much the ones from last year got paid. Not that I bother going anyway.

We had Peter and Jordan turn the lights on last year (in Meadowhall. Town usually gets Bob the builder or someone). the year before it was the celeb of all celebs, Louis Walsh. Actually, I think the last year i lived in Grimsby, Jordan turned the lights on there. This was in 1997 when she was only a tiny bit famous, obviously. Now I think they make do with Roy Chubby Brown and probably Verity off of X Factor 1.
This year we will problay get Rob the Builder off Joseph doing both town and Meadowhall, being the only vaguely local 'celeb' in ages who isn't a more-credible-than-thou musician.
Next in Meadowhall was the first shop I saw in Sheffield with its decorations up, mainly because they opened a brand new store at the start ofOctober and presumably couldn't be bothered to dress it twice within the space of a few weeks.

Manky stollen (sp?)quote] The mention of stollen (preferably not manky!) has made me feel all festive. Get a grip Lisa, it's October.

Has anyone spotted any shopping centre ones on yet? Or Housing Units? I always chuckle when the Housing Units advert comes on, with it being all of two seconds away from me.

Camdenpirate, I think Housing Units only exists in Failsworth/Hollinwood so the ad would probably only be shown on our local telly.
Where is the annual Christmas Coca-Cola advert this year? Isnt it normally on by now?

Glasgow Council have started putting "Winterfest" booklets out, with the George Square ice rink in them. It might as well be Christmas now!
My best friend is German and has been stockpiling Stollen from Lidl since she came back to Glasgow in August. Every time I go round she gives me a big massive bit of it, which is odd really because in every other way she is a totally untypical German- never on time and hates Christmas trees.
