It's not yet October, Mince pies and christmas puddings are back on the shelves at both M&S and Sainsbury's but who will have the first christmas advert?

Dammit! I was gonna start Christmas watch!
I couldn't find the 2006 thread, but in 2005 they had an advert for Christmas scented Glade(?) candles (and it used the word Christmas) on OCTOBER 3RD.
So we're getting close...

They've had Advert Calenders and Chocolate Santas in my local supermarket for at least a month now

We had a customer ask today when we'll be closed over Christmas. We've not even put soup back on the menu yet!

Don't the adverts for those God-awful Christmas hamper clubs start on, like, January 2nd?
I'm not too excited for this year's M&S Chrimbo jobby after the letdown of the poop lesbo train ride. Then again, the Sainsbury's ad is bound to be Jamie Oliver-heavy, so it's six of one, really...

Yeah, Park and Studio savings clubs don't count. We are talking about bonified 2007 Christmas television advertisements. They can't just be wintery/snowy either.

They've had Advert Calenders and Chocolate Santas in my local supermarket for at least a month now I love it when they sell "Ramadan Advent Calenders", as though Advent is just a word to describe a box of windows with chocolate in rather than a period of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Christ

I'm not too excited for this year's M&S Chrimbo jobby after the letdown of the poop lesbo train ride. I'm looking forward to Christmas M & S almost as much as Voyage of the Damned*. Post-sprog drop Myleene! With cute child in Santa outfit! *possibly more

Apart from the odd blip and the always shown "Give us yer money over the year so we'll send you hampers and Woollies vouchers in December unless we go bust" adverts, I'm sure we don't get the majority of Christmas adverts until November 1st. I don't know how M&S can really top the Ice Palace advert. Perhaps the harpies will go and visit Santa and make Mrs Claus feel inadequate. That could be quite good.

I don't really like the Harpies Era M&S Christmas ads. I preferred them when they were full of celebs exposing their raw greed at Christmas time. The fairy tales one with Emma Bunton and Will Young is my most favouritest Christmas ad ever.
Also, are we having an official countdown to "holidays are coming, holidays are coming, holidays are coming..."?

Also, are we having an official countdown to "holidays are coming, holidays are coming, holidays are coming..."? We would, but it wasn't even on last year (replaced by a freaky CGI paedo santa). I hope they've learned their lesson. And it's never on until the end of November dammit.

They rotate it - it's only on every two or three years.
I remember us all being disappointed that we were expecting to be up in arms about Christmas commercials being on too early last year, but most actually arrived halfway through November, which is quite sensible really.

Tesco's got the Christmas aisle decked out already in our local store. At least ASDA has made a cool Hallowe'en aisle until at least November 1st when they can convert it into a full blown Christmas aisle with all the trimmings. As for "holidays are coming" , I think Coca Cola have been cheating since the end of the nineties. They got rid of the bit with the little boy and his grandad reading him a story (y'know "when the trucks come ooover the hiiill... *big cola truck comes through fireplace* " etc.) and just having the "holidays are coming" bit. Which ain't half as magical. See, here's the proper one here:

I've been conditioned to hate those adverts buy all the wankers who say "It's not christmas until I've seen the coke advert!" in the false belief that they're being really insightful and stand up comedian.
I bet there are thousands of facebook groups about them.
It makes me sad because I really loved that advert, but at least I have M&S.

'Holidays are comin'' still makes me feel more Chirstmassy than actual Christmas does. Musically, it's brilliant.

'Holidays are comin'' still makes me feel more Chirstmassy than actual Christmas does. Musically, it's brilliant. But it's so...American. "Holidays are comin"? No, Christmas. Christmas is coming. I don't know if it counts for anything, but my ipod was on shuffle today, and Steps appeared singing "Merry Xmas Everybody". I smiled to myself.

I must admit I've already booked panto tickets! I'm allowed as they are for Christmas Eve, and if I leave it any longer I won't get any and it fills up at least 3 hours for elderly parents.

ZOMG! You are in Sheffield, too! And in 10 years ofliving here, that probably is the best panto line-up we have ever had. One year, the star was the huy who played Paul McLain in Neighbours, that's how bad it gets (they had Dr Karl one year, though, so not too shabby).
