How far into the series is it now? Is it too far for a newbie viewer to start watching with lots of what the hell is going on-ness?

I think it might be about 5 episodes in or thereabouts, but I think it's fine to start watching now - you wouldn't be totally lost. They have a little catch-up segment at the start of each episode, but all you really need to know is that when the brothers were wee, freaky things went on one night, with their mother somehow eventually ending up on the ceiling above Sam's crib and exploding into flames. Their dad became obsessed with hunting supernatural nasties in his quest to find out what happened to her, and the boys were raised knowing about and fighting against those sorts of things. Skip forward many years later, and Sam's been at law school and abandonned the whole hunting thing for the past few years, but Dean has stuck with it and the dad. The dad recently went missing, Dean showed up to get Sam's help, and he initially wasn't going to go with him until his girlfriend wound up on the ceiling right before she burst into flames just like their mother did. So Sam and Dean are now road-trippin' around solving supernatural mysteries, looking for their father, trying to figure out what the hell happened to their mother and to Sam's girlfriend, and most importantly, lookin' extremely hot whilst doing so.
And I'm sorry that's so lengthy, it sounded shorter in my head.
Also, whyyyyy did they take the Monday night repeats off ITV1 and is this a permanent change? I can't watch it on Sunday nights because I'm the only one who doesn't care so much about "first look" Invasion. Meh. I'd far rather watch Supernatural.

They haven't taken off the Monday night repeats- I watched "Bloody Mary" on ITV1 on Monday just gone. Huh. I checked about 3 different listings for Monday night and they said Trevor McDonald or someone would be on. I think. I can't remember now if I checked on Monday night, but I thought I had. Crap. If this is some regional difference, I'm going to scream. I caught the Bloody Mary episode on ITV2 last night though. I'm really squeamish with anything involving eyes so I thought it was pretty entertaining. Edited because I must scream: I checked out listings online again and Sir Trev is on at 11pm. So then I checked ITV1 London and he's actually on at 8pm there. However, here, I am instead treated to a programme on Northern Ireland's issues on nobodycares. Ugh.

No, but you have missed seeing Jensen Ackles in his pants, which I think is possibly worse. We get that again later on in the series- minus the t-shirt.

Mmm, Supernatural totally got me hot last night. Dean should tie up Sam every episode. It should be mandatory.

Aww, thanks Scruffy, but for some strange reason I can't get it. I can get the Irish language channel, though. Which was helpful when I watched the O.C., but only good for Spongebob Squarepants in Irish now.
I'm just gonna have to try and catch it Thursdays on ITV2, after I've watched House. Sadly, I had to miss last week's one because I had a paper to hand in the next day. Woe is me.

Is anyone still watching this? It's actually getting really good. I loved the episode that was on ITV2 this week with the faith healer (even if ITV insist on giving away the bloody ending in the trailer each week, grrr). There's something quite low-key about the whole show, and it is occasionally schlocky and awful, but when it's on-form it's pretty impressive. Also: Darla! Next week's episode is awful (I've already seen it), but the episode after that is AWESOME. Oh, and Sam comes out of the closet.

Argh! I can't believe I've missed so much of this. I was expected it to be your usual (don't hurt me) boring and dull Alias, Buffy et al stuff but I caught the repeat last night and it's chuffing fabulous. The whole faith healer stuff and black magic shit. Aceness!
Mmmmm.... Sam.
Over on famousmale forums there are pictures of Sam (Jared Padalecki) wearing just a towel. Wowzers!

Yep, make sure you don't miss episode 17 - "Hell House", for that is the episode in which the WET TOWEL-CLAD PADALECKI makes an appearance. What's even more brilliant about that scene is the way that Dean's totally checking him out.

Ooh I watched this for the first time last night, adn I quite enjoyed it. Although that may just be down to Jared P---------'s hotness.
I did find it harder to get to sleep, just in case the reaper was at the end of my bed.

The season finale is pretty much spread over 3 episodes- it should be a blinder.

Ok, you realise you're just making this up now aren't you? Imagining homo eroticism between on screen brothers is the 3rd sign of madness. And don't even get me started on you "outing" Sam. Stop gaying them up!!

It's totally there. I put it down to the fact that Jensen Ackles is one of those absurdly charismatic actors who could have sexual chemistry with a sack of tiling grout, but Dean is constantly looking at Sam THAT way. Brothers or not, they're totally doing it.

If they'd gotten just one of the brothers as a different actor, it wouldn't have worked. If, for example, Jensen had ended up playing Clark Kent in Smallville, as he very nearly did....... Oh, and I totally need a moment to freak out about Darla turning up last week. How exciting! I've heard "Route 666" isn't great, but I always assumed that was from the teenage girls who hated Jensen getting some and were jealous. One of them actually said on a messageboard "I just can't see Dean having a black ex girlfriend".

Liar liar pants on fire! I totally believed Sam came out! What? He does, literally, come out of a closet. It's not my fault if you chose to take that figuratively...hehe! You totally had me up until that last point! I will say that they have brilliant chemistry together- you can tell they get on well in real life. Yeah, I agree. It's weird, because on one hand they look in no way related, so that strikes me as bad casting. But on the other hand, I find their history as brothers entirely believable, which makes me think that to be good casting. I'm going to go with the latter. If either brother had been played by a different actor, I don't think I'd enjoy this show as much as I do. They both play their roles really well. I didn't know that Jensen was pencilled in to play Clark. How odd that they turned down someone who can actually act and cast Tom Welling instead. Yeah, 'Route 666' isn't the best. It's just a bit too...silly for my liking. A bit too Hammer House of Horror - this show is much better when it does believable threats that could conceivably threaten the viewer, like the water demon in 'Dead In The Water', or 'Bloody Mary' - I know for a fact that I'm too scared to say her name three times since I saw that episode. It is quite alarming what people will say, re: not believing that Dean would have a black ex-girlfriend. I didn't have any problem with that, but I didn't think they had an awful lot of chemistry. Then again, perhaps I just lose interest in anything that detracts from the awesome Ackles/Padalecki chemistry. (I have done my utmost to avoid being too spoilery in talking about an episode that is yet to air in this country. If I have spoiled anyone's enjoyment, please tell me and I will apologise and be more careful in future.) Incidentally, going back to my earlier point about Ackles's charisma, I would quite literally kill to see him act opposite Jason Dohring from Veronica Mars, who has a similar affliction. I suspect that after about 30 seconds everyone watching would discover their clothes had mysteriously fallen off.

How much do Dean and daddy look alike, when you see daddy in close up?

A hell of a lot more than Dean and Sam look alike, I'll wager.

What I love most is that Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays daddy, is only 40. So that means he fathered Jensen at the age of 13. American viewers are very confused, as he is also currently playing Izzie's love interest on Grey's Anatomy- and Katherine Heigh who plays her, is the same age as Jensen. You have to love american tv casting.

ooh! Cade Foster! ooh! some plot holes! Doesn't daddy already know about Sam's visions, thanks for when he was hiding out at the psychic woman's? If the demon goes for 6 months olds, why did it kill Jess? And why is it taking babie's anyway? Hope we find out!
