Sparkle, Cherubic and I are off to see High School Musical this month, but the touring version rather than the West End one (does Hammersmith really count as West End?) - I suspect we may be the oldest people there who aren't supervising a gaggle of tweens.
And I've just signed up to be informed when they start taking bookings for the London production of Legally Blonde: The Musical. I'm not quite sure what happened to me, since about two years ago I identified as someone who hated most musicals and gave them a wide berth, but I blame some combination of BBC One, Graham Norton, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sparkle.

Speaking of which MTV are apparently doing their own "I'd Do Anything" to find an Elle for Broadway, with Haylie Duff (Haylie Duff!) as a judge.
Maybe Jessie Buckley could apply. After all there's probably no reason why Elle Woods has to be blonde. Probably.

I'm off to the opera on Sunday, to see the WNO production of Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretal. I've never seen a proper opera before, and only managed the first half of the dress rehearsal of Carmen. Do you think they'd mind if I took my hot pink Eurobeat clapper to save my hands?

So, I'm off to see Hairspray tonight. Squeeee! OK, so Ben Ellis was a bit rubbish (but still pretty), but bloody hell the rest of it was just so so good. And Edna and Wilbur had a fit of giggles at the end of "You're Timeless To Me", which just made it even better

Do the Tony Awards air in the UK? There do not seem to be any torrents because criminals and straight teenage boys apparently do not watch the Tony Awards.
I have always enjoyed watching the Tony Awards. They are like a holiday sampler of Broadway and fill in everyone who does not worship Ethel Merman on what is 'happening' in New York. After the show I always feel quite nourished, as if I have consumed an entire season of theatre in two hours. And I am usually correct, since 98% of the time the five minutes devoted to each production is about all I would ever want to sit through (if that).
Also, you have people you have only seen star in terrible sitcoms on television speaking deadly seriously about 'craft' and similar sorts of thing and the winners all make a big point to thank their partner.

Great show though, so so so much fun!

Check out, www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/tkts/whats_on_today/for the tickets you can get halfprice every day (note that these are Stalls seats and you'll probably get cheaper seats in the gods at the various ticket booths between LS Underground and LS) and also try the theatres for returns. My tip - buy the cheapest ticket possible for a Monday night or a show thats announced it's closing soon and you may be able to wangle an upgrade.

Not West End (and definitely not low culture) but I went to see Lear at the Globe and the sight of Edgar (Trystan Gravelle) running round in his pants for half an hour is something I enjoyed. A LOT. Whoa Momma!

Seconded
When all the 8 year old girls start quietly singing the songs as if with one voice is the creepiest theatre experience I've ever had.

I went to see the touring production of The 39 Steps last night.
I really enjoyed it and some parts were very very hilarious but on the whole I thought that it was perhaps a little bit less funny that it could have been.

I am thinking about seeing Lord of the Rings before it closes- I have been reading and it seems to divide people who say its worth seeing because it is so spectacular and others who say its shit because its so long and boring- has anyone here seen it and will I be bored (i am not a fan of the movies or book at all)

Yes and Yes.
Take an MP3 player with you f you go as the score and songs are awful but whats going on on-stage is quite good - it's like they had a 2hr play and decided to stretch it out to over 3hrs by adding songs.
You can see where the money was spent on it but the songs are instantly forgettable and havign never read the books or seen the film I'll admit to not knowing that there were 2 people with very similar names and being thouroughly confused until I read the programme at the first interval.

Thanks for that- I had basically made up my mind to give it a miss but this has sealed the deal for me.
Also, are matinees in the second week of July likely to be filled with school kids on their school trip as I have been warned by friends- I dont want wicked spoiled by a load of brats like saturday at the cinema.

Max and Susannah Farnham are in a touring production of Deadly Game, along with Psycho Graham from Emmerdale, the one who made Rachel Hughes dye her hair brown and threw her off a cliff.
Max and Psycho Graham are also in a touring production of Private Lives, which doesn't feature Susannah, but does feature Sara Crowe. Lovely.

I'm going to see High School Musical tonight. And I hated it. But the various children off their face on Pepsi and popcorn seemed to love it.
