Well they don't do exit polls for it and they are waiting until the whole count is done before the final result is announced. Apparently it's due at around half 8.

I'm quite surprised that a 45% turnout for the mayoral vote is considered "very high" by some media people. When they were talking about the turnout last night on the radio I was expecting it to be nearing the high 70s.

It's so bad. So very, very bad. WAIL.
EDIT: Ken on telly walking down the road round the corner from me, and getting on the bus at the stop just outside my house!

David Cameron was in Barry today, declaring the result in the Vale of Glamorgan council election (from NOC to the Tories) was "tidy" and asking "what's occuring" when pouring a cup of tea in the town square.
I miss Tony.

Labour lost here too. Thankfully. Although it's more suprising that anyone bothered voting, none of the candidates campaigned and I couldn't bring myself to vote for the conservatives, or Labour, so I went for Lib Dems. And still the bloody conservatives won. Grrrr.
At least it's not the general election, I don't think I could stomach the thought that the Conservatives would be in control of the country.

Boris Johnson's dad has just said that "Boris knows Greek and he knows Latin, and if you can do Greek and Latin, you can do anything."
Right.

I'm feeling a massive amount of foreboding about all of this. Running London is essentially like running a small country- the budget's the same, the decisions are completely massive. What's Boris run before this? The Spectator. I'm all for bringing in new people, the idea of having Ken for TWELVE years does seem fairly extreme, but it's quite a jump to go from editor of what is essentially just a sporadically anti-Semitic piece of Tory propaganda to running one of the largest, wealthiest cities in the World. So yes, I'm scared.

I agree.
Thats why I was so annoyed with my friends who didn't care, or voted. It always matters, first you start voting Boris in for a joke - whats next!?

Oh, this is all shit. Are we still going to get The Official London Caraffe and crossrail and free bicycles or are we just going to lose the congestion charge for the fucking suburbanites? I suppose we will lose our Oyster cards and gay pride festival now, also.
I don't understand Londoners. You have to be pretty firmly middle class and straight and white to think that it doesn't matter who is in charge.

Enjoy saying that while you can; somehow I don't think we'll be able to say it for much longer. I'm so embarrassed for the whole country right now. Where's nice abroad, does anyone know?

How about Ireland? We can go and live in Rory's mum's house and they still get British tv there.

We could do our own verion of Castaway. Or put together and buy a small state in America, what with the exchange rate.

Oh, I've tried the emigration thing. Clearly it doesn't work. You did check before you left America to make sure you weren't accidentally bringing conservatism with you, right?

I impulse bought two expensive 'Mai 68' art prints today. I feel like such a champagne socialist.

I'm one of those people who commutes into London for work, and lives outside, so wasn't eligible to vote, even though I spend a huge amount of time in London, and I plan to move into the capital in the next year. Hmm. I just don't know what to think. Something about bus conductors?

At the risk of being karmaed to oblivion, I'm quite disgusted by the level of vitriol shown by Ken supporters towards those who chose not to vote for him. I don't feel I should be called the names I've heard from people on Livejournal and Lowculture today because of the informed choice I made when voting yesterday. I am not a moron or any of the other vile things I've heard today and would appreciate it if those who feel that way could hold their tongues and try not to make other people feel like shit.
