I voted Independent although I live in an impossibly labor ward so it was really a protest vote. He was the only person who bothered to campaign (and that was only putting a leaflet through my door.) No one else bothered and I hate being thought of as anyones 'sure thing'.
i too am very disturbed by the support the BNP is gaining, I live near Rotherham..

Ken deserves everything he gets, people seem to be overlooking the fact he's made more than one anti-semitic comment and according to Channel 4 and the Stannard he's got a drink problem. I shall be shedding no tears for that odious little pipsqueak as he goes back into richly deserved obscurity. GO BORIS! It depends what your definition of anti-semitic is. If you look at the comments section on the Ha'aretz website it would seem misspelling the word Israel would make you an anti-semite. You could tell that that Jewish reporter wasn't actually offended by the comment, he just wanted to use the incident against Ken. And about going back to obscurity. He's been a high-profile politicians for years and years, when he became mayor he neither came from obscurity and as Johnson seemed to hint in his acceptance speech, in which he suggested a role for Ken in his administration, will be disappearing. I think Ken lost due to the current dislike of Labour, the fact he was against a very high-profile candidate, and the suburbs hate of the congestion charge more than anything. And he didn't lose by that much either. I doubt much will change anyway.

The local results were in the paper we get today and I was really shocked at the amount of votes the BNP got, though luckily they didn't actually get voted in anywhere.

I don't want David Cameron being the PM, ta very much. If he would be PM, do you think he would let us watch him all the time on WebCameron?

Jon Sopel really annoyed me last night.
He was chatting to Brian Paddick after the results, and asked him about Boris' speech (Boris said he wanted to continue his talks with Brian about the police). Brian said they had not had talks about the police.
Jon then brushed this off and asked whether Brian would be happy to work alongside Boris, as Boris had been so "welcoming" and "generous" in his speech, and Brian said no, as he would rather be in a position where he could stand up for what he believes in.
Jon was not happy with this response, and proceeded to have a go at Brian for not graciously accepting Boris' offer. It was all a bit odd.

Argf. This made me very depressed earlier. I was walking about town wondering what has become of common sense and our values and so on and just generally sulking. I am a bit more over it now but think a good bit of I'd Do Anything tonight will restore my faith in human kind. At least that's the plan.

Ken's speech following the attacks on London on 07/07 is the most wonderful piece of public speaking.
I hope Boris fucks up so badly that everyone is terrified voting Tory at the next general election. (I mean that in the nicest possible way Londoners)

As a friend said to me, I am going to reserve my vitriol for Doris until he well and truly fucks up something very important. Just a matter of time.
I find it very sad that people would automatically go for the polar opposite of Ken 'as a change', rather than someone who would actually be quite a unifying force across the communities, like Brian would have been.

I'm stunned. I'm watching 'The Wright Stuff' (which is being hosted by Kaye Adams today- yea!), and people are calling in to say they think Boris would be a wonderful Prime Minister as he 'speaks the truth'!
I think we should campaign now to get Kaye in number 10!

This "teen tamer" is bloody awful. Well Boris may have said that, but Ken helped end the problems in Norther Ireland so obviously I voted for Boris, he brings change!"

Divisive politics! No one should feel the need to withdraw from the forum, though - and really, I should know.

She's always got the old Penseiro Bello profile she can use, although the name's been changed to FSG. She'll be back, just like Ken.

I agree, no-one should feel upset over threads like this, we all have different opinions.
I would suggest a group hug, or a verse of Kumbaya.

Boris is banning alcohol on the tfl! I must say I've always thought it should be banned on public transport. From the 1st June apparently: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7387113.stmDivisive politics! No one should feel the need to withdraw from the forum, though - and really, I should know. I don't think anyone made her feel she had to leave, she just went off in a huff. She's easily offended.

I'd quite like Boris to ban marauding football supporters on the tube too, screaming their heads off, hitting things and generally intimidating everyone within earshot. But that's part of our Great British heritage isn't it, so no fear of that happening.

I also liked Boris's idea to take away free bus travel from misbehaving teenagers. Actually I think they should take away free bus travel from all teenagers. Have you tried to get a bus between 3:30 and 4:30pm?

Surely alcohol-fuelled anti social behaviour happens when already pissed people get on the tube/bus/train?

That is true, but people often feel unconfortable around people drinking on public transport, I know I do. And if you're already drunk and drinking more alcohol, it's going to make you more drunk and also people tend to spill their drinks.
